17th October 2023, Mumbai: The illustrious journey of Shah Rukh Khan’s cinematic spectacle, “Jawan,” reaches its 40th day at the box office, with the tantalizing prospect of overtaking the lifetime global earnings of blockbusters like “RRR” and “KGF: Chapter 2.” The tantalizing gap between them is now less than Rs 100 crore.
“Jawan” Nears a Historic Feat
As the days pass, “Jawan” continues its record-breaking trajectory, raising the question of whether it possesses the momentum to make history as the first-ever Hindi film to breach the monumental Rs 600 crore milestone solely from its native language release. The film’s cumulative earnings currently stand at an astounding Rs 636 crore, encompassing diverse languages, with contributions of around Rs 60 crore from its Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions.
Jawan’s Steep Climb Towards Rs 600 Crore
While the film’s total collections soar, its Hindi version secures a formidable share of Rs 577 crore. Yet, the road to an additional Rs 23 crore seems steep at this stage of its cinematic voyage. However, this cinematic marvel recently completed its sixth weekend with resounding success, amassing over Rs 9 crore. This surge was significantly fueled by the boost received on National Cinema Day, thanks to discounted ticket prices. On its 40th day in theaters, “Jawan” continued to resonate with audiences, securing around Rs 60 lakh across India.
“Jawan” Globally Bags Impressive Gross of Rs 1138 Crore
Beyond the boundaries of India, “Jawan” has soared to impressive heights, with a global gross of Rs 1138 crore, as reported by Red Chillies Entertainment. Although it presently occupies the fifth position among the largest Indian films of all time, “Jawan” is gradually approaching the lifetime global earnings of “KGF: Chapter 2” and “RRR,” with their remarkable totals ranging between Rs 1215 crore and Rs 1230 crore, respectively. It is essential to note that the top two positions in the all-time list are claimed by “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion,” with Rs 1780 crore, and Aamir Khan’s “Dangal,” a colossal worldwide gross of Rs 2400 crore, with a significant contribution from the Chinese market in 2016.
“Jawan” and “Pathaan” Becomes A Bollywood Revival
Despite the combined earnings of “Jawan” and “Pathaan” falling short of the total gross of “Dangal,” it’s crucial to acknowledge the evolving landscape of the Chinese market post-pandemic. In this transformed landscape, both “Jawan” and “Pathaan” encountered restrictions, preventing them from exploring the vast Chinese market. Directed by Atlee, “Jawan” was envisioned as Shah Rukh Khan’s inaugural pan-India venture, enriched by the presence of eminent Tamil stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi. The film etched its name in history by setting a multitude of records, including the most substantial opening, weekend, week, and single-day earnings in the annals of Hindi cinema. It also etched its legacy as the fastest Hindi film to reach critical box office milestones, becoming the first Hindi film to conquer the astounding Rs 600 crore mark on home turf. The collective successes of “Jawan,” “Pathaan,” and “Gadar 2” played a pivotal role in revitalizing the Bollywood box office after a period of Trembling Performances.
