27th April 2023, Mumbai : Salman Khan has developed a reputation as one of the most popular actors in Indian cinema history, and his films have had success at the box office. When he upped his game by collaborating with deserving names in the film industry, his celebrity reached a new height. However, since Salman made the choice to collaborate with some of the underappreciated names in the Hindi film industry, the game has altered on the content front. The stardom is still there, but the quality of the content has drastically declined.
Salman’s graph decline began with Remo D’Souza’s Race 3, a movie that was created out of loyalty to the director because Salman had planned to work with Remo on a dance-based emotional drama that was canned after Tubelight. Then, Dabangg 3 and Radhe, two films starring Prabhudeva, were released back-to-back. He collaborated with Farhad Samji in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, continuing the tradition. It’s interesting to note that everyone in Khan’s fan base as well as average moviegoers knew more or less what would happen to the aforementioned films’ plots before they were ever released. And the result wasn’t exactly a shock.
ISalman has collaborated with subpar directors throughout the past five years, making him the captain of the ship and delegating all major choices. But creating films has always been a team effort. When performers and directors work together, the subject and the movie shine rather than when it is a one-man show. Salman has been involved in many facets of filmmaking throughout the years, but it leaves a mark when the filmmaker knows what to take and what not to take away from Salman’s suggestions. Five of the ideas made by SK may be good, while five may be poor. It is the captain of the ship’s responsibility to decide which suggestions are the best.
While Antim wasn’t really a Salman movie per such, it did look better than all of his prior work because Mahesh Manjrekar, the filmmaker, did a good job of capturing the aesthetics of filmmaking. Salman’s ideas probably led to the expansion of his work, but that was only possible since the necessary source material was available. The same is true of the Ali Abbas Zafar-directed film Bharat, which, despite having a few issues in the second half, was well-mounted and had Salman in a strong performance. there’s likely the last “film” Salman has worked on with a “director,” as after that there has been a pattern of committing to unworthy people.
