8th May 2023, Mumbai: In 1989, the blockbuster film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ hit the cinemas and gave rise to one of India’s biggest superstars, Salman Khan. The movie was a massive hit and remains in the hearts of many even today. However, not many people know that the role of the hero was initially offered to another actor before Salman. Recently, actor and writer Piyush Mishra revealed that he was approached for the role when he was in the final year of NSD.
During a conversation with The Lallantop, Mishra shared that he was called to his director’s room and introduced to a well-known director who was launching his son as a director. The director informed him that they were making a movie called ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ and had already shortlisted the female lead.
Mishra was asked to come to Mumbai immediately after he graduated from NSD to audition for the male lead. The director was impressed with Mishra’s features and even took a photograph.Mishra was asked to leave NSD midway and immediately leave for Mumbai. However, he never went to Mumbai, and the actor shared that he had started to hate the world by then. Three years later, when he went to Mumbai, he found out that Salman Khan had played the lead role in the film. Mishra stated that he did not regret his decision as it was his destiny and everyone has their own journey.
‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ gave birth to two iconic characters, Prem and Suman, played by Salman and Bhagyashree, respectively. The romantic drama launched the careers of both the actors and made them stars. The movie was a massive hit and remains one of the most popular Bollywood movies of all time.
