09 May 2023, Mumbai: In a recent interview, Piyush Mishra, known for his roles in Anurag Kashyap’s acclaimed films Gulaal and Gangs of Wasseypur, revealed that he struggles to communicate with the director, despite their past collaborations.
During an interview, Piyush Mishra mentioned that although he enjoyed working with Anurag Kashyap, they have different perspectives on various issues and as a result, their conversations tend to end after just 15 minutes. Despite this, earlier this year, Anurag attended the launch event for Piyush Mishra’s semi-autobiographical book, Tumhari Aukat Kya Hai, indicating a cordial relationship between the two.
Piyush Mishra stated in Hindi that he experiences withdrawal symptoms if no one gets arrested during an Anurag Kashyap shoot within 15 days. He further added that Anurag enjoys shooting without proper authorization, and the police often detain a few individuals as a result. Despite having a friendly relationship with Anurag, Piyush admitted that their conversations tend to be short-lived, and they run out of topics to discuss after 15 minutes. They typically share a coffee and a cigarette, after which their interaction ends.
Piyush Mishra further explained that due to their differing political, ethical, and even some personal views, he and Anurag Kashyap often run out of things to say to each other. However, he did acknowledge that they share similar emotional perspectives. Piyush described their relationship as being akin to having a bone stuck in his throat that he can neither swallow or spit out. He admitted that he cannot spend too much time with Anurag as they have little in common to discuss. For instance, Anurag is a film enthusiast, while Piyush does not watch movies. Hence, Piyush finds it challenging to engage in extended conversations with him.
During the interview, Piyush Mishra expressed his admiration for the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. This is in contrast to Anurag Kashyap, who has been vocal in his criticism of certain stances taken by the ruling party, and has also participated in protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in the past.
