29th July 2023, Mumbai: Christopher Nolan’s Film, Oppenheimer, continues to dazzle audiences as it enters its second week, drawing throngs of eager moviegoers to theatres nationwide. Despite the influx of recent Bollywood releases, Oppenheimer maintains its respectable stance, refusing to yield to the test of time. The film amassed a promising ₹4.50 crore on its eighth day, culminating in a remarkable total collection of ₹77.70 crore in India, with a commendable 28.68 percent occupancy across all languages.

Right from its opening day, Oppenheimer wielded a firm grip over the box office, making a resounding impact with ₹14.5 crore on July 21. The film’s numbers witnessed an impressive surge during its inaugural weekend, culminating in a stellar first-week collection of ₹73.27 crore, comprising ₹64.24 crore in English and ₹9.03 crore in Hindi. However, as Karan Johar’s much-anticipated “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” takes center stage in theatres, Oppenheimer now faces a formidable contender. Karan Johar’s magnum opus, featuring the dynamic duo of Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, stormed the box office with a striking ₹11.5 crore on its opening day, setting the stage for a fierce battle of cinematic prowess.
Barbenheimer still trending
Oppenheimer engaged in a global face-off against Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” while Tom Cruise’s adrenaline-pumping “Mission Impossible 7” continued to dominate theatres worldwide. Despite the intense competition, Oppenheimer raced ahead in the Indian arena from the very outset, capturing hearts and captivating minds. Yet, on the global stage, Margot Robbie’s “Barbie” claims the lead, amassing an astounding $549 million until its seventh day, while Oppenheimer stood strong with $239 million in global earnings. Notwithstanding its triumphs, Oppenheimer faced its share of controversy, notably concerning a scene involving the sacred Bhagavad Gita. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur expressed displeasure at the Central Board of Film Certification for clearing the scene, despite being edited.
