18th August 2023, Mumbai: As the week draws to a close since its release, the box office journey of “OMG 2” starring Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi seems to be slowing down as it approaches the coveted ₹100 crore mark. With a week of screenings behind it, the Amit Rai directorial has managed to garner ₹84.72 crore in earnings, according to reports. However, the pace of collections has tapered off, with a reported ₹5.25 crore on Thursday, as indicated by early estimates provided by Sacnilk.com.
“OMG 2” opened in tandem with the release of “Gadar 2,” accumulating ₹10.26 crore initially. Subsequently, the film enjoyed a boost in collections on Sunday, reaching ₹17 crore, and continued its upward trajectory on Independence Day, Tuesday. However, the momentum appeared to wane, registering ₹7.2 crore on Wednesday and further descending to ₹5.25 crore on Thursday.
Akshay Kumar Expresses Gratitude:
In light of the performance of both “OMG 2” and “Gadar 2,” Akshay Kumar took to social media to extend gratitude to the audience. He playfully referred to the combination of both films, dubbing it “Oh My Gadar.” Sharing a clip from “OMG 2” where he sings the iconic “Udd Ja Kaale Kaawan” song from “Gadar,” Akshay expressed his thanks, stating, “A big thank you to our audiences for all the love for #OhMyGadar and giving us the greatest week in Indian Film History! Pyaar aur aabhar (love and gratitude) #Gadar2 in cinemas #OMG2 in cinemas.”
A Certificate and Controversy:
“OMG 2” has been granted an A certificate (suitable for adults only) due to its exploration of the state of sex education in Indian schools. This decision has drawn disappointment from those associated with the film, who emphasize the importance of allowing teenagers to view it. Actor Govind Namdev, who plays a pujari in the movie, expressed his frustration on social media, suggesting that while the censor board should have scrutinized films like “Adipurush,” they instead chose to censor a thought-provoking and progressive film like “OMG 2.”
Diverse Characters and Thoughtful Themes:
Written and directed by Amit Rai, “OMG 2” features Pankaj Tripathi as Kanti Sharan Mudgal, a devoted follower of Lord Shiva, and Yami Gautam in the role of a lawyer. Akshay Kumar portrays the messenger of Lord Shiva in the film. Produced by Cape of Good Films and Wakaoo Films, the movie delves into themes of religion, societal issues, and personal beliefs. Wakaoo Films expressed their appreciation for the audience’s support, acknowledging that their love is the ultimate reward for their cinematic endeavors
