19th June 2023, Mumbai: The highly anticipated film Adipurush has found itself embroiled in controversy, as critics and reviewers voice their disappointment over certain dialogues. The portrayal of Lord Ram, Sita, Hanuman, and Ravan has sparked outrage, prompting the Kshatriya Karni Sena to issue death threats to the film’s director, Om Raut, and dialogue writer, Manoj Muntashir, during a press conference held in Madhya Pradesh.
Dr. Raj Shekhawat, National President of Kshatriya Karni Sena, made the menacing statement during the press conference in Biaora, Rajgarh, stating their intent to harm the director. The threats were accompanied by a video, further escalating the tensions surrounding the film. Controversial dialogues such as ‘marega bete’ (your will die son), ‘bua ka bagicha hain kya’ (is it your aunt’s garden), and ‘jalegi tere baap ki’ (your father will be burned) have drawn sharp criticism from various quarters. Indal Singh Rana, present at the press conference, echoed these dialogues and threatened Manoj Muntashir, asserting the dominance of the Kshatriya Karni Sena by adding “Sheher bhi tera, ghar bhi, tera, sar bhi tera, aur joota rahega kshatriya karni sena ka.”
Political parties, including the AAP, Congress, and the Shiv Sena (UBT), have joined the chorus of criticism, accusing Adipurush of hurting religious sentiments. Furthermore, social media has been ablaze with negative commentary on the film’s subpar visual effects and colloquial dialogues. In response to the backlash, the makers of Adipurush have decided to revamp the dialogues, hoping to address the concerns raised. Adipurush, a 3D multilingual film starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, and Sunny Singh, hit screens nationwide on Friday. Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, the film boasts a staggering budget of Rs 500 crore, with the makers claiming to have raised Rs 140 crore on its release day. As the controversy simmers, it remains to be seen how the filmmakers will navigate this challenging situation and regain the trust of the audience.
