Mrunal Thakur made an impact on the big screen despite having a little role in movies like Toofan and Super 30. Cinephiles predicted that she would eventually receive a Bollywood offering deserving of her talent. The venture that gave Thakur his big break, nevertheless, was a Telugu film.
According to Thakur, who recently had chats with filmmakers in the wake of the positive reviews Sita Ramam, which stars Dulquer Salmaan, received, “They told me they were fond of my work and apologised for the fact that Hindi cinema didn’t provide me a sufficient platform to demonstrate my talent.” She continues by saying that Bollywood directors regret not realising her full potential and that they now understand that she is “capable of creating legendary characters as well.” Film offers, she says, have been pouring in since the August release. “But I want to play characters that are as prominent as that of Sita. I tell myself to take one day at a time. My choices will depend on how I feel about a role and not on how it is received.”
She considers herself fortunate to have landed a traditional love story in a period when moviemakers have focused on genres like action, humour, and drama. “Classic love stories aren’t often produced in the present day. When did [we] last watch a movie about two individuals who were wildly in love? I can only think of Shah Rukh Khan’s movies, sir. I’m glad Sita Ramam serves as [a breath of fresh air] at a time when visual effects-heavy movies predominate in theatres.”
