6th April 2023, Mumbai: During a recent interview, Johnny Lever spoke candidly about his experiences during his school days and the time when he had to leave school in the seventh grade. He did not shy away from discussing the challenges he faced as a child due to his father’s alcoholism. However, he also fondly remembered his class teacher, who had a strong affection for him and continued to care for him even after he dropped out of school.
With a career spanning over 300 Hindi films, Johnny became well-known for his comic roles in movies such as Deewana Mastana (1997) and Dulhe Raja (1998), for which he received the prestigious Filmfare Awards. His latest appearance was in Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus, which starred Ranveer Singh and Varun Sharma in double roles. Unfortunately, the film failed to meet the audience’s expectations and underperformed at the box office. Despite this, Johnny shared his thoughts on the film’s failure, stating that it demonstrates how viewers still crave good comedy from their favourite stars.
Johnny Lever opened up about his early life. When asked about the reason for dropping out of school in seventh grade, he shared that his father was an alcoholic and did not pay attention to their family. Instead, it was his elder uncle who provided for their expenses, including school fees and ration. Although Lever enjoyed being in school and imitated others, he eventually became frustrated and decided to leave. Despite this, he received a lot of affection from his schoolmates during his time there.
Johnny, who is a popular actor, reminisced about his school days and spoke fondly of his class teacher, Damyanti, whom he still maintains contact with. According to Johnny, Damyanti even tried to persuade him to return to school by offering to pay his fees and buy him clothes.
Johnny’s own children, daughter Jamie and son Jessy, have also pursued careers in entertainment and have acted alongside each other in the comedy film Housefull 2 (2019). Currently, the father-daughter duo is working together in a project called Pop Kaun alongside other notable actors such as Kunal Kemmu, Nupur Sanon, Saurabh Shukla, Chunky Panday, and Rajpal Yadav.
