Actress Jaya Bachchan has disclosed that Amitabh Bachchan’s father Harivansh Rai Bachchan forbade the couple—then unmarried—from travelling together. The seasoned actor claimed that they postponed the nuptials since Amitabh’s father advised them to wed if they wanted to take a vacation together.
“He (Amitabh) contacted me and said, ‘My folks are saying you can’t go for a holiday with Jaya,” Jaya stated in one of the episodes of the podcast series What The Hell Navya. You married her if you want to go on vacation with her. What do you think, he asked. We were going to get married in October, so it’s good; we’ll do it in June, I responded.
“Because my work would have decreased by then, we agreed to get married in October. I definitely don’t want a bride who will work from 9 to 5,” he declared. Work, please. Although not every day, you must work. You select your initiatives, collaborate with the right individuals,” she continued.
Jaya Bachchan added that her father was not really pleased with the choice. I told her, “But you’ll have to speak to my parents,” she recalled. Amitabh called my father and had a conversation with him. My dad wasn’t very pleased. My father was never in favour of me getting married. There were three of us. “I have not brought you into this world merely to educate yourself, get married, establish yourself, and have children,” he declared. I want each and every one of you to take action. My father was that. My father replied, “That’s fine,” after hearing Amitabh (the actor) speak. We choose a small wedding. My folks are still around. I would like them to come.
