18 October 2023, Mumbai: As Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster “Jawan” marches into its 41st day at the box office, it continues to astound with its unwavering dominance. Director Atlee, who led the film to unprecedented heights, will soon make way for his old associate, Vijay, with the release of “Leo.” It’s worth noting that initial projections greatly underestimated “Jawan’s” strength, particularly during its sixth week in theaters. Despite early reports suggesting the film had earned Rs 60 lakh on its 40th day in India, revised the figure to a remarkable Rs 77 lakh. On its 41st day, “Jawan” is believed to have maintained a similar momentum.
Closing in on a Milestone:
This staggering performance has propelled “Jawan” to a lifetime domestic collection of Rs 637 crore. This means it is now merely Rs 5 crore away from creating a substantial Rs 100 crore lead over the second-highest-grossing Bollywood movie of all time, Shah Rukh Khan’s own “Pathaan.” In essence, “Jawan” has set a record that will be a tough nut to crack for future contenders. The film boasts an array of box office records, including the highest opening day, opening weekend, and opening week in Hindi cinema history. Notably, “Jawan” is the first Hindi film to surpass the Rs 600 crore mark domestically and has achieved this feat faster than any other film, crossing the Rs 100 crore, Rs 200 crore, Rs 300 crore, Rs 400 crore, and Rs 500 crore milestones with remarkable swiftness. Excluding “Dangal’s” extraordinary collections in China, “Jawan” holds the title of the biggest Hindi film by all metrics.
SRK’s Jawan’s Global Domination:
While “Dangal” retains its status as the top-grossing Indian and Bollywood film worldwide due to its exceptional performance in China, “Jawan” is inching closer to the Rs 1140 crore mark globally. This puts it approximately Rs 90 crore ahead of “Pathaan” and just around Rs 75 crore short of “KGF: Chapter 2” on the all-time list. Directed by Atlee and featuring Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi, “Jawan” has secured its place as the fifth-highest-grossing Indian film in history at the global box office, trailing only “KGF 2,” “RRR,” “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion,” and “Dangal.”
Jawan Passing the Baton:
“Jawan” has faced numerous challenges during its remarkable run, but the time has come for it to relinquish the limelight to the next major Bollywood hit. This week heralds the release of “Ganapath” and “Leo,” both expected to dominate their respective regions. However, “Jawan,” alongside “Pathaan” and “Gadar 2,” will forever be remembered for its contribution in reigniting the spark of cinema and luring audiences back to theaters after a prolonged pandemic-induced hiatus. Its impact will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on the annals of Bollywood history.
