9 June 2023, Mumbai: Regarding the ‘free’ digital release of Shahid Kapoor’s newest movie, Bloody Daddy, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has voiced concern. On June 9, JioCinema made the movie available for free viewing. He referred to it as a “insane business model” and warned that Bollywood would be destroyed as a result.
Vivek tweeted on Friday, sharing a newspaper advertisement for Bloody Daddy’s OTT release, “Why would anyone show a 200 cr film for free? What kind of business model is this? The sad reality is that Bollywood is toasting to its own demise.
A Twitter user replied to his tweet with an explanation. This is Jio’s business model, the tweet said. For a few/a few months, they’ll offer everything for free in an effort to gain more clients. To keep the clients, they will eventually start charging a modest fee. Other OTT platforms will soon be forced to follow suit and charge less to users in order to make money through advertisements. OTT, which was intended to be an ad-free platform, will also become TV.
Vivek responded to the user’s tweet by asking, “So, in a sense, this 200 crore is their advertising cost?” Many people concurred in tweets.
Ali Abbas Zafar, known for the films Sultan and Ek Tha Tiger, directed Bloody Daddy. He referred to the movie as a big-budget OTT movie that is planned so that its plot can be advanced. He stated in an interview with PTI that “Bloody Daddy’ has not been sacrificed in terms of scale or finance to make it out to be an OTT picture. “The stakeholders all agreed that an OTT platform would be the most authentic approach to distribute this movie because the plot is supported and backed by a particular type of content. We are following our instinct and hoping that this develops into something more. It has been created in a way that it can be expanded upon. Let’s see what the future brings,” he said.
He claimed that the most recent indicator of success—rather than box office—is the “relatability” of the content. “At the moment, relatability has overtaken box office. It’s no longer just numbers,” he declared.
Ronit Roy, Sanjay Kapoor, Diana Penty, and Rajeev Khandelwal all play significant parts in Bloody Daddy. The movie is a remake of the French movie Sleepless Night from 2011. Shahid plays Sumair, who battles white-collar drug lords from Gurugram, dishonest pals, a brutal crime boss, homicidal narcs, and dishonest and crooked cops all in one fatal night.
