The Filmy Charcha Review Of Gadar 2
Ratings: ⭐️⭐️ and a half stars
Review: The magic of the silver screen is that it can transport you to another time and place. In the case of Gadar 2, it does just that – taking its audience back to the 90s. But, i’m saying this in a negative tone. It’s evident from the get-go that this movie isn’t catered to the Netflix-binging, avant-garde consuming audience of today. Instead, it’s a nod to the golden era of Bollywood, when dramatic storylines, and larger-than-life characters reigned supreme. In terms of pacing, the movie starts off at a languorous tempo.
The first half might induce a yawn or two, but hold on, because the action picks up in the latter half. While it does build some momentum, one can’t help but feel that the start was a missed opportunity. When it comes to performances, the limelight undeniably goes to Utkarsh Sharma. While Sunny Deol, a household name, brings his usual gusto to the table, it is Sharma who emerges as a pleasant surprise. On the other hand, Ameesha Patel, much to the chagrin of her fans, is largely reduced to a teary-eyed damsel. Simrat Kaur adds to the roster with a commendable effort, while Manish Wadhwa dives deep into his villainous role. Though he doesn’t quite touch the benchmark set by Amrish Puri.
Overall, Gadar 2 is a nostalgic roller-coaster, paying homage to a bygone era of Indian cinema. Yet, in its quest to recapture the magic, it stumbles. It feels like a missed chance, especially given the legacy of the original film. While it won’t resonate with everyone, for those who have a soft spot for the 90s, this might just be a trip worth taking, if only to witness the emergence of Utkarsh Sharma as a potential torchbearer for mainstream Hindi cinema.
Gadar 2 Starcast
Gadar 2 ventures into uncharted territory by bringing back the iconic characters portrayed by Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel. The sequel intricately weaves a narrative that follows Tara Singh, essayed by Sunny Deol, as he embarks on a daring mission to rescue his son, portrayed by Utkarsh Sharma, who has been captured in Pakistan. Building upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, Gadar 2 captures the essence of its predecessor while delving into new dimensions.
Gadar 2 Roars In LONDON!

Presented in collaboration with the Indian High Commission in London and its cultural arm, the Nehru Centre, the screening took place at the illustrious Vue Cinema Leicester Square. Reflecting on his journey with the sequel, Sunny candidly admitted to harboring initial trepidation about taking on a follow-up to an iconic film that resonated 22 years ago. However, the concept crystallized during the pandemic lockdown and seamlessly resonated with audiences.
Sunny Deol Speaks on Gadar 2’s Craze
In London, Sunny spoke passionately about Gadar 2’s resonance. He expressed, “Indians all over the world are celebrating this film, I can’t tell you how beautiful it is. I never expected it to be what it was, what it is right now. I believe that every man wants his wife to be like Sakeena and every woman wants her husband to be like Tara Singh. And, the family, the way they hold on together and fight off everything, that’s the basic USP (unique selling point) of the story.” In a landscape where cinema often bows to transient trends, Gadar 2 stands tall as a testament to the enduring power of authentic storytelling and the timeless connection it forges with audiences. The film’s unprecedented box office journey and heartfelt impact soars
