14th March, Mumbai: The teaser of the drama film Bheed starring Rajkumar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar was released 3 days ago, and the online community had a lot to say about that. Netizens called this film ‘anti-india’, and accused the director Anubhav Sinha of spreading his ‘personal propaganda’ to bring hate to the entertainment industry.
Legendary actor Pankaj Kapur spoke openly about the criticism of his upcoming film, Bheed. Some people have referred to the Anubhav Sinha-directed film as “anti-national” after seeing its preview. Pankaj urged audiences to hold off on making judgements until after seeing the film in reaction to the claims.
Bheed describes the events of the employees’ migration during the lockdown in 2020 and contrasts them to the 1947 Partition. It features Rajkummar Rao, Dia Mirza, Bhumi Pednekar, Ashutosh Rana, Virendra Saxena, Aditya Shrivastava, Kritika Kamra, and Karan Pandit as well as other well-known actors. After the Covid-caused lockdown in India, Pankaj portrays a watchman who must relocate.
“You must realise that in our society, which is what you’ll also see in our film, people will declare monsoons before a drop of rain comes,” Pankaj said in response to criticism of the Bheed teaser in an interview. We have such impulsive, strong opinions. Instead of waiting patiently and saying, “Alright, let’s think about what is happening,” we act hastily. Before you comment, why not view the movie first? That one tiny teaser is crazy. You then start claiming that the movie is political. It’s a documentary that analyses our society’s attitude, how we think, and how we respond to various circumstances. In this film, authorities are depicted in a favourable light, which is uncommon in movies.”
A scene in Bheed where Pankaj’s character supposedly rejects food from Muslim males for allegedly promoting “Corona Jihad” sparked a lot of discussions as well. The Tablighi Jamat debate led to the term’s creation. “After you watch the movie, you’ll see how differently it was handled. This is now being used by him (Sinha) as an actual thought, but the movie also includes another thought. The 68-year-old actor continued, “Which, when you’ll see, will make you realise that human beings, in the end, are all the same.
Bheed will be a monochrome film. On March 24, 2023, it will be released in theatres. It is produced by T-Series and Benaras Mediaworks.
