The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) stated on September 2 that on September 16, India would celebrate National Cinema Day, during which various theatres would offer tickets for just Rs. 75. As anticipated, audiences were ecstatic. After all, the average ticket cost, particularly in metropolises, is typically higher than Rs. 150 or Rs. 200. As a result, having the opportunity to see a movie for such a low price delighted customers, and many had already made arrangements to pack theatres on September 16.
The aam junta would probably have to wait a little longer to take advantage of this offer, though. Bollywood Hungama was informed by a source that “The MAI has decided to push back the National Cinema Day by a week. Instead of Friday, September 16, it will now take place on Friday, September 23.
When asked for the reason behind this move, the source replied, “The Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra is the dominant film at present and is doing great. It was strong even on Monday, which proves that it’ll do strong business on the second weekend too. Disney, who has released Brahmastra, hence requested the multiplex association to push the celebrations by a week.”
The source continued, “The MAI and the multiplex teams found merit in their request. We all know that Brahmastra is a very costly movie. It needs to daily clock a huge number to become a hit and the Rs. 75 offer might prove to be a dampener. The multiplexes are also grateful to Brahmastra as this is the film that ended the dry period at the box office. Therefore, they all agreed to Disney’s plea. The National Cinema Day will now be held on September 23, on Brahmastra’s third Friday.”
“Brahmastra’s ticket prices have been exaggerated,” an industry insider said. Yet a sizable audience is showing up. It is a wise decision to not sell its tickets for rock bottom prices on its eighth day because they will do so regardless of the ticket pricing over the second weekend.
Multiplex chains like PVR, Inox, Cinepolis, Carnival, Miraj, City Pride, Asian, Mukta A2, Movie Time, Wave, M2K, Delite, and others would take part in the festivities, according to the MAI.
All ages of moviegoers will come together on National Cinema Day to enjoy a day at the movies. It also acknowledges and thanks moviegoers for helping to make successful cinema reopenings possible. It is an invitation to moviegoers who haven’t returned to a nearby theatre yet, according to a statement from the MAI.
