My Name is Khan
Imagine living life under the constant fear of being fired as a terrorist. This is an absolutely deep reference to My Name is Khan. The spread of Islamophobia after 9/11 was a nightmare for Muslims around the world, especially those in the United States. The heart-wrenching tale follows the life of the dearly loved Rizwan Khan – an autistic – who seeks to avenge his son’s death by declaring “My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist” personally to the US President Is.
My Name is Khan is inspiring, motivating and compelling. It will bring tears to anyone’s eyes and fill them with a sense of empathy till they brim. Undoubtedly, it deserved an Oscar.
When an innocent dies… then with his death the whole humanity also dies.
Rang De Basanti
Film is timeless. Its unconventional script is woven into a topical theme that juxtaposes the past and the present to show how they reflect each other. This highlights how the voice of the youth is important in determining the future of our country. When this realisation dawns on a group of carefree youngsters living in the national capital, their lives change forever.
The film celebrates patriotism unmarried by prejudice, it celebrates youth – the flag-bearers of the future – and it celebrates the past, the sacrifice of revolutionary blood. Without any doubt, Rang De Basanti deserved all the prestige, recognition and glory from the global film fraternity.
No country is perfect
Know how to make perfect use.
Masan
Masaan is another of the kind of ideals that Bollywood has adopted into new-age cinema. The film struggles to show a grim reality between life and death, casteism and sexism that still exists in our country. The film follows two separate plot lines that lead to a composite reality in the end. While Devi Pathak is being hanged for having premarital sex, Deepak is falling in love with an upper caste Hindu girl only to enter into a relationship that is in the context of what he is running Ruined from the start.
This surprisingly powerful film weaves together some heart-wrenching scenes and ends on a poignant note calling for a better future. Masaan is still a very underrated film, it deserves more recognition. This is another visionary film worthy of an Oscar.
Keep the stars safe in your eyes,
For a long time the night will be night,
I am also a traveller… You are also a traveller…
Will meet again at some point.
