Cast: Deepak Antani, Chinmay Mandlekar, Arif Zakaria, Tanisha Santoshi.
Director: Rajkumar Santoshi
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
After a almost decade Rajkumar Santoshi is back in his Director’s Chair. We meet the wide range of personalities in the 110-minute movie. Gandhi (Deepak Antani), a devoted adherent of the ahimsa (non-violence) concept, is an advocate of Hindu-Muslim harmony and wants to make Hindurashtra a secure place for Muslims. However, a wave of anti-Gandhi sentiment is born out of an ugly event between the two communities. Godse (Chinmay Mandlekar), a Maharashtrian Brahmin who desires to adorn his beloved “Hindurashtra” with “bhagwa ring,” serves as his antagonist and arc competitor (saffron). When Godse’s attempt to kill Gandhi is unsuccessful and he is imprisoned, the plot advances. The contacts between Gandhi and Godse, as well as the developments in the former’s life, form the basis of the remaining portions of the movie.
First Half was exciting and feels like a film, while everything was going well the second half take that graph downwards, feels like the film was streched a Little. Dialogues was not so memorable, However in the end the message of the film cover up your boredom.
Performances: After playing Gandhi’s role for numerous times Deepak Antani nailed this one also, talking about screen time Deepak Justices every second of his presence on the screen.
After giving back to back sprectecullar performancs in films like Pawankhind and The Kashmir Files One more time Chinmay’s performance impacted the film. Dialogues and body language are the highlighted part of his performance.
Tanisha Santoshi debut in a bollywood as a decent character, her screen times was felt Little less but its better in terms of acting. However her character bends more towards emotional side which may bores you somewhere.
Direction: Here is a man who created a fictional, but nevertheless highly iconic, movie similar to Pukaar. And more films like The Legend of Bhagat Singh, known fir his epic comedy Andaaz Apna Apna and rom com like Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani. It feels like Santoshi lost that touch when your watch Gandhi Godse because in terms of Direction the movie was better but it doesn’t feel Rajkumar Santoshi Film. Direction is the thing were film losts his Half star.
Cinematography: The yellowish Cinematography gives you the historic Vibes, not matter what everyone tells but this type of Cinematography is unique. Camera angles suited that Cinematography and Several of the jail’s and the village sequence’s wide-angle shots are masterfully crafted.
Music: Music lifts some scene very perfectly, especially ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ song is the vein of the film’s Background score. ‘Vaishnav jan l’ song plays sufficient role in the film’s music. Overall A.R.Rahman’s music is one of the reason for the film’s Half star.
Overall: Good film but could have been better.
