‘Cobra’ movie detailed review: Chiyaan Vikram delivers an Award worthy performace?

Starcast : Chiyaan Vikram, Srinidhi Shetty, Irfan pathan, Mirnalini Ravi, Roshan Mathew

Director : Ajay Gnanamuthu

Rating : 2 ⭐️⭐️

Highlights :

  • KGF’s Srinidhi Shetty played the female lead in the film.
  • The movie also marks the debut of cricketer Irfan Pathan
  • Vikram’s outstanding performance as always, ARR’s music and BGM, rich visuals.

It is well known that Chiyaan Vikram is a talented and committed actor. He has proven his mettle with each movie and each outfit he wears. But will that be sufficient to save his most recent creation, Cobra? No, that’s a resounding NO.

Madhiazhagan AKA Madhi (Chiyaan Vikram) is an assassin as well as a brilliant mathematician. He is so skilled that he leaves no trail, but he still has contacts all over the world (don’t ask how! You must be convinced of it. He murders a British king and makes off unharmed. He has many passports and various disguises so he may travel and commit murder. Incredible, isn’t it?

Aslan Yilmaz, an Interpol agent from Scotland (played remarkably well by Irfan Pathan), is searching for the killer of the British king. Judy, a mathematician and criminology student, also discovers a connection between the murders of the British king and the chief minister of Odisha. This enables Judy and Aslan to embark on a search for the brilliant person who vanished without a trace. Will Judy and Aslan be successful? Has Madhi ever had a past? The three-hour film deals with these solutions.

Ajay Gnanamuthu is an up-and-coming director. Each of his films contains some intriguing themes. He stumbles, nevertheless, in the application. With a plot that appears to be lifted from vintage MGR movies like Villain and Manmadhan, he could have produced a passable thriller if he had relied on a compelling screenplay. Ajay Gnanamuthu complicates it excessively by using a canvas that is larger than life.

Ajay believes he has created a sophisticated and intricate tale with Cobra. But all he does is state what is clearly clear from the images. Before the alleged “banging” break, Judy is seen learning the suspenseful information before the Interpol agent. Judy, however, you are late because the rest of us in the room already knew what it was. This is a persistent issue in Cobra. In lieu of showing us, the director “tells” us.

Another big issue with Cobra is that it lacks logic and is arrogant. The sequences are forced and lack organic flow. Consider the fact that Madhi, Vikram’s character, has a schizophrenia diagnosis. This part appears to have been added purely to give the actor a stage on which to demonstrate his acting prowess, with no apparent significance to the plot itself.

Chiyaan Vikram is the consummate actor. There’s no denying that! But how long can we stand by as he spends hours on makeup just to put on a costume that is only visible for around 10 seconds? He would be interesting to watch in roles like Saamy and Dhool, which are perfect for him. Having said that, he has nailed a specific scene in the second half that would bring to mind Anniyan for the audience. His performance is what keeps the movie watchable.
