Kantara, a multilingual movie starring Rishab Shetty, has been the season’s underdog. This action thriller, which was originally produced in Kannada and is based on local folklore and rituals, has become one of the highest-earning Indian movies of 2022 and the second-highest grossing Kannada movie of all time. Everyone is still talking about the film’s cinematic experience because word of mouth has done the movie such a good turn. Even some of the biggest names in the Indian cinema industry, including Rajinikanth, expressed their admiration for Kantara.
Rishab Shetty, the principal actor and director of Kantara, attributes the movie’s commercial success to the packaging, which is firmly anchored in coastal Karnataka culture. In a recent interview, Rishab discussed the reasons why Hindi movies in the post-pandemic era are unable to work the same magic at the box office. In past conversations, he has insisted that more local is more universal. He supports it by stating that you have a better chance of appealing to a larger audience if you concentrate on your own, familiar region. He told Hindustan Times that this is what Bollywood filmmakers are overlooking.
“Indian filmmakers are attempting to create similar works due to excessive western influence and consumption of Hollywood and other content. But why do you even try that? In terms of quality, storytelling, and performances, they are already receiving that in Hollywood, he was reported as adding.
Rishab stated that he does not want Kantara to be recreated in Hindi during a conversation with ETimes. “You must respect the history and culture of these characters in order to play them. I respect a lot of the prominent actors in the Hindi cinema business. However, I have no interest in remakes”, He explained.
