With Kantara, the South industry has produced yet another surprise. The original version is Kannada cinema’s second-biggest hit. Even though the Hindi version came out two weeks later than scheduled, it is unstoppable now. It made Rs. 15 crores in Week 1 and, despite competition from blockbusters like Ram Setu and Thank God starting on Tuesday, October 25, it appears like it will make more in Week 2.
We observed that AA Films’ decision to release Kantara in Hindi at a reduced price point has worked well in the film’s favour. And according to Bollywood Hungama “The first weekend saw lower Kantara prices than usual. Anil Thadani of AA Films urged theatres to start charging Rs. 112.”
The source went on: “On Day 1, the Hindi version of Kantara brought in Rs. 1.27 crores. Monday, day 4, saw an increase in revenue of Rs. 1.75 crores. This demonstrated that the Kantara will have a successful and protracted career. To capitalise on the demand, the exhibitors consequently persuaded Anil Thadani to raise the ticket prices as of Tuesday.”
“The prices of Kantara would be slightly higher after the launches of Ram Setu and Thank God. But compared to the Diwali releases, it will be a little less. Starting on Tuesday, October 25, fewer performances will be offered. However, the advance reservations have been brisk. Should the new releases not perform as anticipated, the exhibitors are prepared to increase their show schedule”, at last, the source rejoiced.
