16th April 2023, Mumbai: Bobby Vinton is a legendary singer, songwriter and performer that has been making music for over five decades. On April 16, 1935, he will celebrate his 87st birthday. Bobby Vinton is best known for his hit songs “Blue Velvet” and “Roses are Red (My Love)”, which are among the bestselling singles of all time.
He has been nominated for 14 Grammy Awards and has won one, as well as being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Vinton began playing the accordion at the age of eight. He then began singing and performing in local clubs, eventually leading him to an appearance on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour, which he won.
Vinton began his career in the early 1960s, and his first hit was “Roses Are Red” in 1962. This song was followed by a number of other hits, including “Blue Velvet”, “My Melody of Love”, and “Mr. Lonely”. His popularity continued to grow, and in 1975, he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Vinton is still performing and recording, as well as playing the accordion. He has been inducted into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame and has performed for several U.S. presidents. Most recently, he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Singers.
