23rd March, Mumbai: In a teaser for a new four-part documentary on Disney+ that was just released today, Ed Sheeran sobbed as he talked about his wife Cherry Seaborn’s precarious health and the unexpected death of his best buddy Jamal Edwards.
An heartbreaking preview for The Sum Of It All, which will broadcast on May 3, features the British megastar, 32, sobbing in the back of a car.
Ed recently admitted that he had “spiralled” into melancholy after his wife was given a tumour diagnosis while pregnant last year, postponing the start of her treatment, and his first mentor, Jamal Edwards, passed away in February 2022 from a heart attack.
The Suffolk-born singer-songwriter can be seen crying in the video as he struggles with his friend’s passing and his wife Cherry’s health issues as she gets ready to give birth to their second kid, Jupiter, who was in May 2022.
Then there is a footage of him crying on stage, and Cherry says, “I’ve never seen him cry on stage.” She continues, “He hasn’t had the time to absorb and be at peace with his ideas.”
The four-part series, which will debut in six weeks, will trace Sheeran’s rise to fame.
The trailer opens with Ed talking about his childhood and his experience growing up with a stutter. Fans have reported that the clip made them emotional. Ed’s early videos are intercut with scenes from his sold-out arena tours as a performer. Visitors will witness him progress from the start of his career to his emergence as one of music’s top talents.
Ed talks about how he met Jamal, his best friend, who gave him his first significant break, and their bond before Jamal’s untimely death last year. In February 2022, Jamal Edwards, a music producer and the son of Brenda Edwards from Loose Women, unfortunately passed away at age 31 from a heart attack spurred on by cocaine and alcohol.
Lyra and Jupiter, the couple’s two children, are shown in the docuseries as well as video of Ed’s wife Cherry while she was pregnant.
On one of their dates, Ed remarks, “Everything in my life sort of got so much better when Cherry came into it.” The show also goes into detail about Cherry’s health problems and the toll they had on the relationship. When Cherry was diagnosed with a tumour that she couldn’t have treated until after giving birth to their second child, Ed recently disclosed that the couple has struggled with “fear, depression, and anxiety.”
The teaser concludes with happy clips showing Ed having a birthday party, performing on stage, and having fun with his friends while he comments, “Life can be unpredictable.”
