Gurmeet Singh Asks Film Industry to Look After Crew's Health and Working Hours

Long working hours are a norm in the film industry, and such rigorous schedules can take a toll on the people working in the background. Director Gurmeet Singh has spoken about the need to maintain disciplined working hours on sets and highlighted the need to ensure the well-being of mental and physical health of the film crew.

During a conversation with Rahul Varun on The Filmy Charcha Podcast, Singh stated work arranged for 12 hours should be completed within those 12 hours. Singh said that the production team must not overburden the workers and ensure that the working hours do not impact the mental and physical health of the workers.

Singh's statements highlight the need to look after those working on the sets of films and television shows, who work tirelessly for the industry to keep functioning.

Why Crew Welfare Should be a Priority for The Film Industry

While the director and other main cast members can work on an intermittent basis, technicians and others in the crew can work for a large part of the year.

As stated by Singh during the course of the conversation, those working on sets of film and television shows have to depend on this job for sustenance. Hence, the working conditions of such people need to be kept in mind.

It was also stated by the director that the mental and physical health of the workers must be kept in mind at all times. The above statements show that the industry must understand its responsibility towards those working in the background.

Discipline Should Not Mean Overburdening Workers

The director's statements about working hours within a 12-hour schedule call for more responsibility from production houses. They must plan better so as to ensure that they do not stretch the working hours of the crew unnecessarily. Such measures will help in minimizing the pressure borne by these workers.

In this regard, it must be stated that crew welfare must be seen as the responsibility of the industry at large, and cannot be left to individuals.

A film set is all about people working in unison, and overworking a section can affect the functioning of others. It thus becomes imperative to keep the well-being of such people in mind.

A Mindful Approach Towards People Making the Movies

Gurmeet Singh's statements show that people working in the film industry must be kept in mind, and the need of the hour is to ensure that they are well cared for, both physically and mentally. Such measures will ensure that the industry can deliver a project on time without putting the crew through rigorous working hours.
