The highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finally arrives, marking the end of a tumultuous journey for the team and writer-director James Gunn. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has undergone significant changes since the release of Vol. 2 five years ago, with characters being blipped out of existence and then returning, and the firing and rehiring of Gunn. Phase 4 of the MCU has also faced mixed reviews, making the need for a hit film more crucial than ever. Thankfully, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 delivers, offering a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy and a worthy addition to the Marvel franchise. Despite carrying the most narrative baggage of any MCU film post-Endgame, Gunn’s finale manages to work smoothly, thanks to its heartfelt and genuine approach to storytelling.
Review: In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, all the characters, both old and new, have their moment to shine. James Gunn has managed to balance the ensemble cast and give each character a satisfying conclusion based on their previous arcs in the franchise.
The film portrays a range of emotions through its various characters. Star-Lord and Gamora’s love story, Rocket’s past, Drax and Mantis’ friendship, Gamora and Nebula’s complicated sisterly bond, and Groot’s unique affection for everyone all contribute to the emotional depth of the film. Special mention to the friendship of Star-Lord and Rocket, Their friendship is particularly noteworthy. Each character brings their own feelings and experiences to the story, making for a rich and complex portrayal of human (and alien) emotions
When you watch this film, you will be impressed by the A quality script and some acting performances, magisterial direction, and stunning cinematography. While there may be some aspects of the film that didn’t quite meet expectations but they are overshadowed by the overall excellence of the movie. It serves as a wonderful good bye to the trilogy, with a perfect blend of humor, emotion, and thrilling musical action.
Let’s talk about What works and what does not work in the film.
What Works
PERFORMANCES: In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, all the characters, both old and new, have their moment to shine. James Gunn has managed to balance the ensemble cast and give each character a satisfying conclusion based on their previous arcs in the franchise.
Performance of Crish Pratt.. yes Our Star Lord,He delivers another highlighted performance as Star Lord. He brings a strong emotional range and improved dialogue delivery to the role but well… his action scenes were not as impressive, overall, he continues to shine in the role
Bradley Cooper’s Vocal performance as Rocket Raccoon is truly exceptional, He brings a unique personality to the character, capturing both Rocket’s humor and his emotional depth. The film is centered around Rocket, as his backstory and relationships are explored in greater detail than in previous films.
Zoe Saldana, who portrays the character of Gamora, delivers a nuanced and understated performance in the film Despite having limited screen time, Saldana manages to create a lasting impact with her portrayal of the complex character. Her ability to convey Gamora’s internal struggle and emotional depth is truly commendable.
Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, and Pom Klementieff deliver out of ordinary performances. Klementieff and Gillan shine in particular, with their characters Mantis and Nebula being both humorous and formidable.
Take a Bow for one of the Badass Villain in the universe of Marvel. Chukwudi Iwuji gives a standout and Applause worthy performance. As the villainous High Evolutionary, delivering his lines in an Old English style flair and making the character utterly detestable. With his extensive theater background, Iwuji makes the most of his time on screen and establishes the High Evolutionary as one of the top-tier MCU villains.
Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock seems to be the only character who doesn’t get enough screen time or development. Despite limited screen time, Poulter manages to bring the bravado and ferocity required to make Adam an intimidating and imposing presence on screen.
Sylvester Stallone’s cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 surprised many fans, and yeah he is back in Vol. 3 as well. Even though he appears for less than two minutes on the screen, the weight of his presence is palpable throughout the rest of the movie. He still carries his Rocky Swag along with him.
How can we forget about our most beloved Groot, yeah Vin Diesel. He continues his I’m Groot dialogue but but but… There is a little surprise this time for all Groot Fans… No Spoiler please… Go to the theatre and watch.
Direction: James Gunn concludes the trilogy in his signature style. He skillfully balances action sequences, emotional moments, and humor, delivering a satisfying conclusion to the story. Gunn’s direction is impressive as he brings out the best in each character and creates a cohesive and entertaining film. The way he handles the film’s themes is the perfectI mean PERFECT from every angle of Cinematic perspective.
SCRIPT: In the film Gunn’s script shines through as perfect for the film. When it comes to humour Marvel always sucks but in this film humor is taken to another level and it’s different and Gunn’s interpretation of the characters is allowed to be unfiltered and hold nothing back for their last ride together. The film doesn’t rely solely on raunchy jokes, but rather allows the characters to fully embrace their personalities and quirks. While there may be comedic bits that don’t suit everyone’s taste, the humor is an essential part of the film’s tone and overall enjoyment. Gunn’s willingness to push boundaries and take risks pays off, resulting in a script that is both hilarious and heartfelt.
Cinematography: Talking about the film’s cinematography then thanks to Henry Braham for his top-notch and truly enhancing cinematography. Braham’s framing of the action scenes is particularly impressive, with one scene that stands out as an all-time great
Music: In the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, the use of music to accompany the action scenes has always been a best, best and best feature. And once again, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, they hit the mark perfectly. The soundtrack, just like in the previous films, is an eclectic mix of classic hits that will make you want to dance along with the characters on screen. The music is seamlessly woven into the narrative. For the best experience, it is recommended to watch the film in IMAX. Honorable mention to the song ‘Come and get your love’
What Not works
Editing: what did not work was the editing of the film and it was not entirely satisfying. However, it is worth noting that the film still had many strong elements, such as the performances, cinematography, and music
Visual effects. When it comes to best visual effects or VFX in the world of film making everyone quickly jumps to Marvel, Marvel movies are often praised for their impressive visual effects or VFX in the film industry but this time they disappoint. However, it feels that the VFX or the visual graphics in the film is not up to par with Marvel’s usual standards but still it’s better than Thor Love and Thunder.
Overall Review: It’s perfect for a weekend to watch and a Summer treat for the Marvel Fans all over the world. From acting performances to Direction to cinematography, you will experience something best while watching. However some elements of film making didn’t go as expected but it’s the unnoticed part. The perfect farewell to a trilogy with humour, emotion and musical Action.
