Social worker and actor Rayya Labib, was honoured with the Vishwa Bharat Gaurav Puraskar award, a press note by the organisers, an Indore-based NGO said on Wednesday.
The award will be presented at a function on 26th January, Republic Day in Indore.
In addition, the Global Citizens Action Forum will present Rayya Labib a special citation for promoting the Indian dance form of Kathak. She had originally learnt Kathak under Padma Shree awardee and Kathak guru Sitara Devi before the latter passed away, years ago.
Speaking to this reporter, Rayya Labib said, “I am honored to be presented with the Vishwa Bharat Gaurav Puraskar award for my work in the field of dance, art and culture. It’s a long way and the woods and lovely dark and deep, but I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep,” she said quoting poet Robert Frost.
Rayya Labib will also perform at the Maharashtra Cultural Festival to be held in Mumbai during April this year, the press note said.
