T-series and Panorama Studios have released the first trailer for the upcoming Bollywood thriller Drishyam 2, a sequel to the 2015 hit starring Ajay Devgn as a man who devises a plan to protect his family from the cops after his wife and daughters murder a creep who was harassing them. The Hindi film was a remake of the 2013 Malayalam film of the same name. Drishyam 2 is a remake of the 2021 sequel to the original Malayalam film, which has also been remade in Tamil as Papanasam, Telugu as Drushyam, and Kannada as Drishya.
For those who are unaware, India has several thriving film industries that operate mostly independently of one another, which explains how one country has now produced five versions of the same exact story. not to mention the remakes in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. This ought to explain the importance of property rights. The original Malayalam language has been preserved.
In Drishyam 2, Devgn reprises his role as movie-obsessed Goa man Vijay Salgaonkar, who discovers that a new cop is investigating his family in connection with the unsolved case from the previous film.
Drishyam 2 is directed by Abhishek Pathak and takes place seven years after the events of the first film, which ended with Vijay cryptically confessing to the policewoman in charge of his family’s crimes but apparently being let off lightly in the interest of moral fairness. However, during those seven years, the Goa police were always suspicious of him.
“The truth is like a tree seed.” It will eventually come out, no matter how deeply you bury it. In the new trailer, Vijay says solemnly as he buryes the body of the man who harassed his wife and daughters. He’d buried the body underneath the a police station that was still under renovation.
This time, Vijay’s adversary is a new investigating officer, played by Akshaye Khanna. The officer is proud of his ability to read suspects. As the cat-and-mouse game becomes more intense, Vijay warns his family that they will most likely have to spend the rest of their lives looking over their shoulders. The trailer concludes with the surprise return of Tabu, the first film’s prime investigator, who joins forces with her successor as they close in on Vijay.
Vijay is portrayed in the Drishyam films as a clinical man who uses his vast knowledge of films to methodically complete small and large tasks. The original Drishyam was said to be inspired by the popular Japanese novel “The Devotion of Suspect X,” but director Jeethu Joseph denied this. Furthermore, The Devotion of Suspect X has also been adapted into a number of films all over the world. Netflix is also working on an authorised Hindi language adaptation, which will be directed by Sujoy Ghosh and star Kareena Kapoor Khan.
This is Devgn’s fourth film of the year, following Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR, and Runway 34. Over a three-decade career, the actor is best known for playing brooding action heroes. Tabu is best known to Western audiences for her roles in Mira Nair’s The Namesake and A Suitable Boy, as well as Ang Lee’s Life of Pi. After becoming a heartthrob in the early 2000s, Khanna went into seclusion for several years. He is again making a career fightback.
Drishyam 2 is set in the uniquely cinematic coastal state of Goa and stars Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, Rajat Kapoor, and Kamlesh Sawant. The film will premiere in cinemas on November 18.
