Dahaad is a new web series that takes place in a remote town in Rajasthan, where a serial killer is on the loose. The police are determined to catch the killer and find out his identity, but the victims are scattered all over the state.
Plot: The plot revolves around the investigation and the killer’s motive.Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar, known for their writing skills, have created another hit with Dahaad. The characters are well-written and well-developed, making the performances stand out.
Performance:
Sonakshi Sinha, who plays the lead role of Anjali, delivers an outstanding performance. Despite the many layers to her character, Sonakshi embodies her role so effortlessly. Anjali is a victim of social inequality and Sonakshi does justice to her character.
Vijay Varma’s acting prowess shines in his role as the serial killer. He portrays a monster living a double life with such authenticity that the audience is afraid of him even when he is not killing anyone.
Gulshan Devaiah’s performance as the incorruptible police officer is terrific, and Sohum Shah’s portrayal of the conflicted cop is flawless.
Sohum Shah portrays the character of Kailash Parghi, a police officer with questionable morals. Although his character’s arc may seem foreseeable, it is revealed towards the end that he has a compassionate side. What sets his character apart is that his transformation is subtle and may go unnoticed until the show’s conclusion.
The supporting characters’ actions and words have a significant impact on the men, and their shifting thought processes help the audience understand their motives. However, the cinematographer, Tanay Satam, does not delve deep into the patriarchal culture of the town beyond the surface level.
Review:
Dahaad starts with a lot of promise, and the first two episodes are thrilling, but the show loses its momentum as it progresses. The stunning locations and engaging storyline keep the viewers hooked, but the narrative could have been tauter.
Dahaad is not just a typical thriller; it is a show that sheds light on the socio-political issues that our country is facing. The show’s emphasis is on exploring the societal stigmas and how they impact people’s lives. While there are moments when the show feels stretched and predictable, the deeper meaning behind the series is worth exploring. It offers a unique perspective on the thriller genre, taking a more introspective approach towards the storyline. It’s a show that invites viewers to think beyond the surface level and delve deeper into the underlying issues. The makers have done a fantastic job of balancing the suspense with the underlying message, making it a must-watch for those who appreciate thought-provoking content.
Created by Reema Kagti, Zoya Akhtar, and Ritesh Shah, the story and screenplay are engaging, with several subplots and twists. Overall, Dahaad is a thought-provoking series that addresses social stigmas prevalent in the country. While the star cast delivers great performances, the editing could have been crisper.
