13th May 2023, Mumbai: IU, a Korean actress and solo singer, was accused of plagiarising six songs from her renowned and well-known catalogue. Her agency clarified on social media that they had not received any summonses from the investigating agency in a lengthy and forceful rebuttal to the bold assertions that were initially made. In fact, they went on to say that the company (and most likely artist IU herself) learned about the accusations from press reports. They informed the party who intended to propagate misleading information of their decision to countersue them.
EDAM Entertainment once more issued a statement in defence of their artist IU, denouncing the claims that she plagiarised the songs “Red Shoes,” “Good Day,” “BBIBBI,” “Pitiful,” “Boo,” and “Celebrity.” They were surprised to see that IU was the target of a plagiarism charge (rather than the songwriter who had previously spoken out in support of her), even though they have long handled instances involving rumours.
The business acknowledged hiring a copyright-focused law firm right away to help them better comprehend the allegations brought against IU. They have discovered that the third party is merely attempting to damage IU’s reputation by bringing accusations against her, despite the fact that the songwriters have stepped forward to refute any such charges.
The management label claims that they have now put their faith in the investigation agency to get a prompt and just conclusion regarding the case. They have referred to the situation as “obviously false accusations,” for which EDAM Entertainment plans to take severe legal action against the accusers and hold them responsible for their conduct after the case’s outcome.
Lee Ji-eun is a South Korean singer-songwriter, composer, and actor better known by her stage name IU. She joined LOEN Entertainment (now Kakao Entertainment) in 2007 as a trainee, and at the age of fifteen, she released her first extended play (EP), Lost and Found (2008), marking her singing debut. Even though her subsequent albums, Growing Up and IU…IM, were commercially successful, she didn’t become a household name in the United States until “Good Day,” the lead single from her 2010 album Real, was released. The song “Good Day” later spent five weeks in a row at the top of South Korea’s Gaon Digital Chart, and in 2019 it was placed first on Billboard’s list of the “100 Greatest K-Pop Songs of the 2010s”. Young Lee Ji Eun (IU’s true name) continued to pursue music after being turned down by companies like JYP Entertainment, signed with LOEN Entertainment, which is now known as EDAM Entertainment. Since her debut, she has remained with the same agency as she made the move from successful singer to successful actor.
