Kannada superstar Yash’s much-awaited film Toxic: A Fairytale For Grownups opened to a massive response at the box office. However, the film witnessed a significant drop in collections on its second day amid mixed reactions and criticism. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features Yash in the lead role alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth and Huma Qureshi.
Toxic Box Office Collection Day 1
Toxic had a strong start at the Indian box office. The film collected Rs 101.10 crore net across all languages on its opening day. Its worldwide gross collection stood at Rs 140.75 crore on Day 1, setting the stage for what looked like a huge opening weekend. However, the film could not maintain the same momentum on its second day.
Toxic Box Office Collection Day 2
According to Sacnilk, Toxic collected Rs 36.40 crore net across India on Thursday. The film recorded these collections across 22,629 shows. With this, the film’s India net collection has reached Rs 137.50 crore after two days. Its India gross collection stands at around Rs 164.50 crore. The Day 2 numbers mark a sharp drop from its opening-day collection.
The Hindi version contributed the highest share to Toxic’s Day 2 collection, earning Rs 23 crore. The Kannada version followed with Rs 8.50 crore, while the Telugu version contributed Rs 3 crore. Tamil added around Rs 50 lakh, whereas the Malayalam version earned approximately Rs 40 lakh.
Toxic Worldwide Box Office Collection
The film continued to perform well in overseas markets on its second day. Toxic earned around Rs 10 crore overseas on Day 2, taking its total overseas gross collection to Rs 26.25 crore. With its India and overseas earnings combined, the film’s worldwide gross collection has reached Rs 190.75 crore in just two days.
Final Words
While the makers have not officially announced the film’s budget, reports suggest that Toxic has been made on a massive budget of around Rs 500 crore. Crossing the Rs 190 crore mark worldwide in two days is certainly a strong start. However, the sharp drop on Day 2 is something the film’s makers will be watching closely. Toxic now needs strong collections over the weekend to recover the lost momentum. More importantly, the film will have to maintain steady numbers during the weekdays if it is to move closer to profitability. The upcoming days will therefore be crucial for Yash and Geetu Mohandas’ ambitious film.
