Avatar: The Way of Water had a fantastic Sunday since sales continued to soar to incredible levels. This was a significant day since a staggering Rs 15 crores* came in once more, solidifying the film’s dominance not just in India but throughout the world. The fact that our nation is making a significant contribution to the James Cameron film and that the collections are among the Top-10 international territories demonstrates once again how crucial our region is developing for the West.
No wonder numerous Bollywood films’ lifetime records are being smashed as well; the ones that fell short this past weekend were War (Rs 318 crores) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (Rs 321 crores). While the latter was a family drama, the former was an action entertainer. In a way, Avatar: The Way of Water successfully combines both of these genres. The movie’s current gross is Rs 326 crores*, and by the end of the third week, it should be close to Rs 345 crores.
The best case scenario for Drishyam 2 is currently estimated to be Rs 245 crores, which would be a massive overachieving of all expectations. With Rs 2.15 crores coming in on Sunday, it was yet another day with over Rs 2 crores being collected, and the collections were fairly strong overall.
Due to a dearth of competition, one wonders if the Ajay Devgn-starring movie still has a chance to gross at least over Rs 2 crores the following Sunday. It would, however, be close. The industry has benefited from everything it has done thus far, as evidenced by the sum of Rs 235.01 crores earned thus far.
The final numbers are still awaited.
