In India, the visually stunning Avatar: The Way of Water is shattering box office records. After earning Rs 192.75 crore in its first week, the movie continues to do well at the box office even in its second week. While Avenger: Endgame’s Rs 52.55 crore record-breaking second weekend grossed a massive Rs 59.3 crore, the second Monday too saw strong attendance at movie theatres.
Avatar 2 made almost the same amount on its second Monday as it did on its second Friday. It brought in about Rs 12–13 crore, according to Box Office India. With these numbers, the movie might complete its second week in theatres with an additional 100 crores in its coffers. The film is performing well in southern areas as well, and it may soon surpass the Rs 100 crore mark in Telugu states. India is the fourth-largest market for Avatar 2 behind China, South Korea, and France, according to a Box Office India report.
Lack of regional rivalry is one factor in Avatar 2’s successful run in theatres. Cirkus, a comedy-drama by Rohit Shetty, which had purportedly fierce competition, has not succeeded in drawing viewers. The movie had a slow Monday, earning around Rs 3 crore, according to Box Office India, after a poor weekend at the box office (Rs 20.85 crore). This is a decrease of more than 50% from the movie’s Sunday take (Rs 8.20 crore). Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 2 is also gaining from Cirkus’ failure in addition to Avatar 2. The movie is still doing well in theatres in its sixth week. At the moment, it has received Rs 227.94 crore in total.
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Kate Winslet are the cast members of Avatar: The Way of Water. In Avatar 2, Sam and Zoe return in the characters of Jake Sully and Neytiri.
