30 May 2023, Mumbai: Priyanka Chopra, now a global superstar, faced her fair share of struggles in the early years of her Bollywood career. In 2003, during the filming of her debut movie Andaaz, her inability to dance to the standards set by Bollywood brought the shoot to a surprising 45-day halt. Let’s delve into this chapter from Priyanka’s challenging journey.
Challenges in Bollywood-Style Dancing
Producer Suneel Darshan, in an interview with Times of India, revealed that cracking the Bollywood-style dancing proved to be a formidable challenge for Priyanka. The specific song “Allah Kare Dil Na Lage Kisise” required her to excel in this aspect. Despite her best efforts, the international shoot in Cape Town had to be stopped, and Priyanka was enrolled in 45-day dancing classes with Bollywood choreographer Veenu Prakash. Prior to her Bollywood debut, Priyanka won the title of Miss India World, which opened doors to numerous film offers. Initially, she intended to enter the industry with the film Humraaz. However, circumstances led her debut to be The Hero: Love Story Of A Spy alongside Sunny Deol. Nevertheless, the makers of Andaaz consciously chose Priyanka and Lara Dutta, both beauty pageant winners, to grace the screen in their movie.
Shoot Halt Due to Akshay Kumar’s Upcoming Delivery
Surprisingly, the shoot halt during Andaaz’s production was not solely due to Priyanka’s dancing struggles. Producer Suneel Darshan revealed that Akshay Kumar’s impending delivery with his wife Twinkle Khanna played a significant role in the break. Once the break was over, Priyanka resumed filming after undergoing dancing classes in Mumbai. The shoot was eventually completed, and the film went on to become a massive box office success, grossing 288 million on an 80 million budget. Despite the obstacles she faced early on, Priyanka Chopra’s determination and hard work have propelled her to become a celebrated Bollywood actress and global icon.
