The Kerala Story, a Bollywood movie, has been receiving attention ever since its teaser debuted a few days ago. The video, which was directed by Sudipto Sen and was made by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, details how ISIS kidnapped 32000 Hindu females from Kerala in order to subject them to love jihad and recruit them for terrorist actions. The film’s lead actress is Adah Sharma, but many political figures have criticised it, saying it promotes hatred and ought to be outlawed.
The Kerala story has drawn criticism for presenting itself as a true narrative and for falsely or truly alleging that hundreds of Keralan women have been converted to Islam and conscripted by ISIS. It is also accused of advancing the Sangh Parivar’s objective.
Shashi Tharoor, a prominent politician, recently criticised the filmmakers and remarked, “It may be your Kerala story. It is not *our* Kerala story.” He further tweeted, “Let me stress, I am not calling for a ban on the film. Freedom of expression does not cease to be valuable just because it can be misused. But Keralites have every right to say loud & clear that this is a misrepresentation of our reality.”
Actress Adah Sharma portrays Fathima Ba, a Hindu Malayali nurse who was one of the 32,000 women who vanished from Kerala and was later recruited by the ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) after being pushed to convert to Islam, in the movie “The Kerala Story.”
“I’m happy that this movie might raise awareness, and I always appreciate when people show their love and support. Regarding performance, I give the creators full credit.” The actress cited the writer, the director, and the cinematographer.
Adah said about the controversy that surrounds the film, “Our film is about girls getting drugged, brainwashed, raped, human trafficking, forcefully impregnated and then raped again by multiple people sometimes, the child they deliver been taken away and them being made suicide bombers. It’s about life and death! for the few who are saying its propaganda, I guess once they watch the film with all the facts they will say otherwise.”
Vipul Shah had earlier said talking about the film, “The film is an amalgamation of years of research and true stories which have never been dared to be told before, it will uncover many hidden truths that have been hidden for long. It will uncover the dangerous threat radicalisation poses to the women of our nation and will create awareness about this conspiracy being hatched against India. The film aims to become the voice of tens of thousands of women across the globe who have been indoctrinated and exploited for terrorism and other crimes.”
‘The Kerala Story’ film also stars Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idnani in addition to Adah. It is scheduled to premiere on May 5.
The Kerala Story may get BANNED in India by the Censor Board amid the political uproar and harsh criticism. Numerous political figures have urged the BJP-led Centre to prohibit the movie’s showing. Even Kerala’s state government declined to support the movie. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), who has not yet made any announcements regarding the film’s ban, is ultimately responsible for making this decision.
