08 May 2023, Mumbai: On Sunday, during the Coronation Concert, various choir performers from the Commonwealth were introduced by Indian actress Sonam Kapoor, who took the spotlight.
As a prelude to the virtual choir performances by the Commonwealth, which included choirs, solo artists, and duos from all 56 Commonwealth countries, Sonam Kapoor’s segment took place. During this segment, Sonam introduced Steve Winwood, who performed a contemporary rendition of his famous song “Higher Love” alongside a 70-piece orchestra.
At the start of her speech, Sonam Kapoor greeted the audience with the traditional Indian greeting “namaste.” In her spoken word performance, she highlighted the diversity of the Commonwealth. Sonam, who is recognized as one of the leading Bollywood actors, was introduced as such.
A video of Sonam Kapoor delivering her speech in front of the royal family during the concert was shared on Instagram by her mother, Sunita Kapoor. In the caption, Sunita expressed her pride and honour. Sonam responded to the post with heart emojis and the words “love you.”
Prior to the performance, Sonam Kapoor had posted images of her attire for the ceremony. She was dressed in a floor-length gown that was co-designed by Anamika Khanna and Emilia Wickstead, a New Zealand-born UK-based designer. She opted for a minimal makeup look and accessorised her outfit appropriately.
A day after the historical ceremony that declared him as the 40th monarch of Britain, King Charles III’s Coronation Concert took place at Windsor Castle. The concert featured performances by renowned artists such as Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Take That. Other artists who graced the stage included Nicole Scherzinger, Olly Murs, Paloma Faith, and Andrea Bocelli.
