28th May 2023,Mumbai: The highly anticipated teaser for Randeep Hooda’s directorial debut, “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar,” has been released, offering a glimpse into the intriguing world of the biopic. Hooda steps into the shoes of the renowned freedom fighter, portraying him in various captivating avatars throughout the teaser.
Joining Hooda in the film are Ankita Lokhande and Amit Sial, with Anand Pandit and Sandeep Singh taking on the production duties. The teaser was unveiled on Sunday, coinciding with the celebration of Savarkar’s 140th birthday.
The teaser opens with Randeep entering a prison cell, setting the tone as he declares, “The struggle for liberation spanned 90 years, yet only a few took part in it. The rest craved power.” Through a voice-over, Randeep expresses, “Gandhiji was not a villain, but had he not insisted on non-violence, India could have achieved freedom 35 years earlier.” The teaser then reveals glimpses of Randeep’s journey to the gallows, highlighting Savarkar as the man who inspired armed revolution, alongside figures like Khudiram Bose. Randeep, in his titular role, is seen enduring torturous experiences while imprisoned.
Towards the end, Randeep conveys the message that something may be valuable and precious, but not at the cost of someone else’s freedom. The teaser concludes with the thought-provoking question, “Who killed his story?”
During the trailer event, Randeep expressed his admiration for Savarkar, stating, “Savarkar led an incredible life, and as I delved deeper into his story during the research for this film, my respect for him grew immensely. Hence, on the occasion of his 140th birthday, it gives me great joy to present a sneak preview of our movie.”
Sandeep Singh highlighted the ongoing misinterpretation of Savarkar, emphasizing the need for people to watch the film and understand his cause before demanding apologies. Singh asserted his belief that Veer Savarkar was a patriot, and those who misunderstood him should seek the truth through their movie. He acknowledged that the past cannot be changed, but expressed gratitude for the opportunity to create a film on one of India’s greatest freedom warriors.
Co-written and directed by Randeep Hooda and UtkarshNaithani, the filming for “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar” is nearing completion, and the movie is anticipated to grace the theaters later this year.
