There are relatively few Bollywood directors whose names alone can draw crowds to theatres. Such a director is Sooraj Barjatya. A few days ago, the trailer for his new movie, Uunchai, was released, and it has drawn attention. The fact that it is Sooraj Barjatya and Amitabh Bachchan’s first time working together has also increased the excitement. And today, we’re going to share with you an amazing movie-related development.
According to a source who spoke to Bollywood Hungama, Yash Raj Films (YRF) will release Uunchai both domestically and internationally. The prestigious production company owned by Aditya Chopra will debut a Rajshri Productions picture in domestic theatres for the first time this year.
That’s not all, either. Uunchai would release in accordance with the Rajshri model, the insider said. In week 1, they famously launched Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), their biggest hit, on a very small number of screens. Additionally, the quantity of prints expanded as word of mouth and demand grew. The same will happen with Uunchai. In India, it is anticipated to debut on 600–700 screens. The goal is to gradually increase the number of screens because they think word of mouth will spread favourably. This kind of action is dangerous, but the makers appear incredibly confident in their offering. They therefore made the decision to adopt this tactic.
“Yash Raj Films will also release Uunchai in international markets,” the person continued. With the exception of Nizam, CP Berar, CI, and Odisha, YRF will release the movie throughout India. The movie will be shown in the aforementioned four nations by Rajshri’s team.
Since they primarily distribute their own films domestically these days, YRF’s decision to release a movie under a different name is important. Malang (2020), Jai Mummy Di (2020), Chhota Bheem: Kung Fu Dhamaka (2019), Hanuman vs. Mahiravana (2018), Piku (2015), and Happy New Year are some recent foreign films that YRF has distributed in India (2014).
This is an extraordinary cooperation, said one industry insider. Rajshri completes 75 years while YRF completes 50. The fact that they both met during pivotal years is crucial.
Parineeti Chopra, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, Sarika, and Neena Gupta are also featured in Uunchai. The movie will debut in theatres on November 11, 2022.
