Mrunal Thakur has addressed the speculation surrounding her role in Allu Arjun’s upcoming sci-fi film Raaka. The actress revealed that she has not signed a film in almost nine months, raising questions about her reported involvement in the highly anticipated project.
Mrunal Thakur Explains Why She Has Not Signed A Film
In a recent interview with Mid-Day, Mrunal Thakur addressed the rumours linking her to Raaka. She stopped short of confirming or denying her involvement and said, "I haven't signed any film in almost nine months. I'm waiting for a meaningful role to come [my way]. Now, whatever announcement has to happen, it will happen on my social media handle and then I'd love to talk about it."
Mrunal clarified that she has turned down projects because their stories did not appeal to her, rather than because of a lack of offers. She explained that spending around 120 days on a film set makes creative satisfaction an important part of her decision. The actress added, "But I don't resonate with the stories that are being made. So, I have chosen to take some time off because I don't want to question why I'm on set every day. I have to spend 120 days on a movie set. So, it's my conscious effort to sign movies that give me not just love and recognition, but also creative satisfaction. When I go to bed, I don't want to think that I did bad work. I want to do good work that will be remembered even 30 years down the line."
What We Know About Allu Arjun’s Raaka
Directed by Atlee, Raaka brings Allu Arjun and Deepika Padukone together for the first time. The ambitious sci-fi film is scheduled to arrive in theatres in 2027. It also marks Allu Arjun’s first collaboration with the Tamil filmmaker, making the project a major addition to his filmography.
The film has already achieved a notable milestone during production. It secured a Guinness World Record for the “Most People Motion-Captured in Real-Time,” with 37 performers participating simultaneously. The achievement has added to the anticipation surrounding the project's technical scale.
Allu Arjun has also asked fans to remain patient as the team works on the film. His last theatrical release was Pushpa 2: The Rule in 2024, and audiences are now waiting to see him in a new cinematic world. He said, "I'd like to tell all the film enthusiasts and all the fans: please, I know we're taking our time, but please be a little patient with us. We are trying to serve you the best. I request each one of you to just hold on a little longer. I hope it's all worth it for you."
Meanwhile, filmmaker Cibi Chakaravarthi recently praised the film's visuals after getting a glimpse of them. He made a bold comparison while discussing Atlee's upcoming project, expressing confidence in what audiences would eventually see on screen. He shared, "I have seen the visuals of his films; he showed them to me. Sir, I don’t think even Avatar has visuals like that. Everyone will see what I’m talking about in three days. The visuals were extraordinary."
