8th July 2023, Mumbai: Manish Malhotra, a costume designer, and actor Kajol have been friends for more than 25 years. Many of Kajol’s classic looks on the big screen over the years were created by the designer. Recently, the two met up in London for a “dinner and dessert date.”
Recently, Kajol travelled to London as she basks in the positive attention her episode of the Netflix India anthology Lust Stories 2 is receiving. She was photographed with Manish Malhotra on a “dinner and dessert date.” The well-known designer shared photos of himself and Kajol on his Instagram Stories while he was in London for an entrepreneur’s wedding reception.
Kajol was photographed wearing a white jumper with black stripes, as opposed to Manish, who is wearing a black T-shirt and a dark blue jacket. In one of the photos, she was seen wearing it with black sunglasses and accessorising it with a watch. She can be seen savouring a chocolate cake or brownie in the other photo while smiling with Manish in the first.
Manish created Kajol’s original costume for Naresh Malhotra’s romance movie Yeh Dillagi in 1994. The classic outfits worn by Kajol in Aditya Chopra’s 1995 directorial debut, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, were afterwards created by him. He also created Kajol’s costume for her debut performance as a bad guy in Rajiv Rai’s romantic drama Gupt: The Hidden Truth from 1997. They followed it up with Karan Johar’s 1998 directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and Tanuja Chandra’s 1998 psychological thriller Dushman, which both had memorable diverse tomboy and sari wardrobes. Before Kajol got married to her co-star Ajay Devgn and took a break from acting, they followed it up with Prakash Jha’s 1999 film Dil Kya Kare.
Then, Manish created Kajol’s costumes for her comeback film, the family drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham directed by Karan Johar in 2001, her cameo in the song Maahi Ve in the romantic comedy Kal Ho Naa Ho directed by Nikkhil Advani in 2003, the romantic movie Fanaa directed by Kunal Kohli in 2006, and her cameos in Rock n’ Roll. Soniye in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), a romance film directed by Karan, and Deewangi Deewangi (2007), a reincarnation drama directed by Farah Khan Om Shanti Om, Ajay Devgn’s 2008 directorial U Me Aur Hum, Karan’s 2010 directorial My Name Is Khan, Siddharth P Malhotra’s 2010 dramedy We Are Family, and most recently, her cameo in Karan’s 2012 campus caper Student of the Year.
