A talented actress in the South Indian cinema is Kavya Thapar. She has appeared in a decent number of south films. Kavya finally made her Bollywood debut earlier this year with the charming movie Middle-Class Love, and critics praised the actress’ work as well. She has done South films like Ek Mini Katha, Market Raja MBBS, and Ee Maaya Peremito (all in Telugu). Kavya is currently preoccupied on receiving plaudits for her work in the Netflix series CAT which also stars Randeep Hooda, Hasleen Kaur and many other tremendous actors.
The Filmy Charcha recently interacted with Kavya and spoke to her about her experience and how she is liking working in the Bollywood industry.
While the conversation was going on, Kavya discussed why she feels Bollywood is lacking to make good numbers on the box office. She shared, “Its all about story yaar.. Aap agar apni audience ko 2 ghanto ke liye bhi engaged nahi rakh paa rhe ho, entertain nahi kar paa rahe ho toh you are not doing a successful job is what I believe! In covid when people had time, they’ve seen all kinds of movies- English films, Korean films, South movies, Hindi movies, Marathi movies sab movies dekh chuke hai and even Punjabi bhi. So logon ne sab tareeke ka content dekha hai aur alag alag webseries dekhi hai ; movies se bhi jyada!”
she went on saying, “Log ab apna samay barbaad nahi karna chahte. Agar aap ab unko wahi ghisi-piti cheeze dikhaoge toh unko nahi dekhna hai vo. Artists ki bhi opnion change ho gayi hai abtoh ki ‘audience kya dekhna chahti hai.’ Plus social media has made it a thing ki aaj-kal sab ek critic hai.”
“Another thing that has affected it is Jo time interval hai between releasing the movie in theatres and than taking it to the OTT platforms is very short! Log theatres mein isliye movies dekhne nahyi jaate kyuki unko pata hai abhi 10 dino mein toh vo OTT par aa hi jayegi. Covid ke timepe toh logon ne apne gharo mein hi home theatres bana liye the. So basically, the story and the content has to be so strong that vo ek insaan ko apne ghar se, apne comfort zone se uthake theatres tak le aaye.”
She later gave an real-time example of the movie ‘Drishyam 2’ which has been breaking the records since it has released and is among the few movies that have bagged good numbers in 2022. She discussed about how well Ajay Devgn’s starrer is doing. She said we need more of such stories in the movies that will force the people to not miss it at any cost.
CAT is characterised as a criminal thriller set in the Punjabi hinterland about an innocent man who becomes involved in a convoluted drug trafficking plan involving gang leaders, police enforcement, and political officials.
On the work front, Kavya has three films planned which of One is Tamil and two are Telugu, both of which she is quite pleased about. In addition, she also has one Amazon web series lined up.
