Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Daayra has shown signs of improvement after a slow start at the box office. The crime thriller recorded a significant rise on its second day, but the growth may not be enough to push its opening weekend past the Rs 5 crore mark.
The Meghna Gulzar directorial is now heading into its first Sunday with a lot riding on its weekend performance. Its two-day trend also gives an interesting comparison with Kareena’s previous crime thriller, The Buckingham Murders.
Daayra Box Office Collection Sees 60% Growth On Day 2
According to Sacnilk, Daayra collected Rs 1 crore net across India on its opening day. The film recorded 12% overall occupancy across 2,283 shows on Friday. Its opening-day performance gave the film a modest starting point at the box office.
The film picked up pace on Saturday and earned Rs 1.60 crore. That represents a 60% jump from Friday’s collection. Its two-day India net collection now stands at Rs 2.60 crore.
Daayra also saw its overall occupancy rise to 18% on Saturday. Bengaluru recorded the strongest occupancy among major markets at 45.3%, while Delhi-NCR registered 23%. The rise in occupancy helped the film improve its second-day numbers.
The two-day performance remains behind Kareena’s previous crime thriller, The Buckingham Murders. That film opened with Rs 1.15 crore in 2024 before rising 69.6% to Rs 1.95 crore on Saturday. Its stronger second-day performance gave it a two-day advantage over Daayra.
The Buckingham Murders had collected Rs 3.10 crore in two days. Daayra, therefore, is currently Rs 50 lakh behind Kareena’s previous film at the same stage. The comparison shows that Daayra has not yet matched the early pace of its predecessor.
Among recent Bollywood thrillers, Haiwaan also opened stronger. The Saif Ali Khan film earned Rs 3 crore on Day 1 and Rs 2.50 crore on Day 2. That took its two-day total to Rs 5.50 crore, putting it ahead of Daayra at the same point.
Daayra now needs another strong jump on Sunday to improve its opening-weekend total. Based on the available figures, the film is currently tracking toward a weekend below Rs 5 crore. Its Sunday performance will determine how close it can get to that mark.
Daayra is a crime drama directed by Meghna Gulzar. The film stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles. It explores a controversial case through the perspectives of two police officers.
Kareena plays DCP Ajooni Kohli, while Prithviraj portrays DCP Raman Kumar. Their characters become involved in a controversial case that raises questions about justice, accountability and police action. The story places their professional responsibilities at the center of the conflict.
The cast also includes Jitendra Joshi, Kshitee Jog and Biswapati Sarkar. Amit Trivedi has composed the film’s music. The combination of an established cast and Meghna Gulzar’s direction gives the film a strong crime-drama setup.
Daayra has a runtime of 2 hours and 23 minutes. It carries an A certificate and was released in Hindi and Malayalam on September 18, 2026. The film is aimed at adult audiences because of its mature crime-drama themes.
The film has an estimated budget of Rs 50 crore, according to reports. That makes its early box-office performance an important factor in its theatrical run. The film will need stronger collections in the coming days to build momentum after its low opening.
