Javed Khan Amrohi, a seasoned performer in both Bollywood and television, passed away today in Mumbai at the age of 60. According to sources, he had breathing problems and had recently been admitted to Surya Nursing Home in Santacruz, where he passed away when his lungs failed.
Over 150 Bollywood films featuring Javed Khan Amrohi featured him in supporting roles. Coolie No. 1, Andaz Apna Apna, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India, Ek Aur Ek Gyarah, Chak De! India, Phir Hera Pheri, and others are a few of his well-known movies. He last appeared in the 2020 film Sadak 2 as Pakya, which starred Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt. Additionally, he appeared in a number of Hindi TV series and was an active participant in the IPTA (Indian People’s Theatre Association) theatre company.
The most well-known role for Javed Khan Amrohi was as a pundit on Lagaan. In the movie, he had his proudest moment when he shouted “Hum jeet gaye” to celebrate Aamir Khan’s team’s victory. In fact, since it became a well-known meme on social media, this moment has gained more popularity. In the movie Andaz Apna Apna, he was also a rival to the characters portrayed by Aamir Khan and Salman Khan.
The final rituals for the deceased were carried out today at the city’s Oshiwara cemetery.
