Bajirao Mastani, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, celebrated its seventh anniversary on December 18. This would be a good opportunity to correct the casting process for this historical epic. There are a lot of misunderstandings and misunderstandings about casting.
Salman Khan was the original option for Bajirao, and because Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had decided not to collaborate with him, Kareena Kapoor Khan was selected to play the female lead in Bajirao Mastani.
Salman did the unimaginable; he offered Priyadarshan the chance to direct Salman and Kareena before Bajirao Mastani, and that too for Kyon Ki, a funny adaptation of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. The two Khans, Kareena and Salman, had done a fantastic photoshoot together and were ready to start shooting what promised to be the best movie of their careers.
Salman Khan’s grandiose project was cancelled for what reason? Some claim that he did this as payback to Bhansali for not using Katrina Kaif as Mastani. Salman was at that moment strongly urging producers to use Katrina. She was not cast by Bhansali.
Then, Bajirao Mastani was placed on hold. Instead, Bhansali used Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan to create Guzaarish.
Later on, Bajirao Mastani was brought back to life. Ajay Devgn, Shah Rukh Khan, and Hrithik Roshan were all given the opportunity to play Bajirao, but each of them declined for personal reasons.
In the end, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh played the titular roles in the movie. In many respects, the remainder is history.
