18th March, Mumbai: Akshay Kumar is an Indian actor and producer who has appeared in over 100 films in a career spanning more than three decades.
Akshay Kumar is reportedly facing a tough time due to the poor box office performance of his recent films, including Bachchan Pandey and Ram Setu, To prevent another potential failure, his upcoming movie ‘Oh My God 2’ (OMG 2), which also features Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam, might be released on OTT platforms instead of a theatrical release.
According to rumours, OMG 2 may be released on OTT platforms like Voot or Jio Cinema. The film, directed by Amit Rai and produced by Vipul D Shah, Rajesh Bahl, and Ashwin Varde, features Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Yami Gautam. The previous film in the series, “OMG: Oh My God!”, was released in 2012 and starred Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal.
The film’s OTT release is trending on social media, with many fans arguing that it should only be released in theatres. Fans are even prepared to purchase an OTT subscription in order to watch the film.
The first film, OMG, was a commercial success in 2012 and follows the story of an atheist, Kanji Lalji Mehta, who sues God after his shop selling Hindu idols and antiques is destroyed by an earthquake and he is unable to obtain insurance.
Out of Akshay Kumar’s last ten films, three were released on OTT platforms – Laxmii, Atrangi Re, the other seven films that were released in theatres – Sooryavanshi, proved to be box office successes, while the rest – Bachchhan Pandey, Ram Setu, Bell Bottom, and Raksha Bandhan underperformed.
