Bollywood boycotted movies are always the hit ones, and this has been proved many times in indian cases.
Today we will let you know about 05 boycotted Bollywood movies which really earned well and were recordbreaker blockbuster.
The first in the list is the recent released movie Brahmastra, it took eight years to make and release this movie but a decent number netizens denied to watch it and also tried to boycott it for a very foolish reason which was a 2011 opinion or a tweet of Ranbir Kapoor in which he said that he loves to eat beef, and the other reason was Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt both are starkids and so to stop nepotism some people took the decision of boycotting it, which absolutely turned out to useless and the movie Brahmastra turned out to be complete success and earned 600 crores at the box office.
Second movie which was superhit and also was boycotted was none other than the 2016 released Aamir’s movie Dangal
This movie’s story was based on real life characters two wrestler sisters Geeta and Babita phogat.
This movie also suffered a boycott due to the previous opinions of the actor in which he said that he and his wife don’t feel safe in India. This movie has gained very vast popularity and the total worldwide gross box office collection was 387.38 crores .
The movie padmaavat directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali was based on the real life story of Rani padmaavat of Mewar . This movie starred Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Sahid kapoor in the lead roles. The reason behind the boycott of padmaavat was because the right-wing group Rajput Karni Sena has been at the forefront of the protest claiming that Padmavati showcases their queen in an objectionable manner. The group has alleged that the film has a dream sequence where Rani Padmavati is shown romancing Alauddin Khalji.
Although after a lot of protest and assault Bhansali agreed that no such scene will be presented in the movie but the Rajput Karni Sena didn’t agreed and therefore a special screening was done for them before the movie was released, but despite of all the protest people went in the theaters to watch the movie and the movie proved to be the best blockbuster of ranveer singh and Deepika Padukone with a total box office collection of ₹585 crores.
4. Gangubai Kathiawadi
The movie gangubai Kathiawadi was released on 25 February 2022, and starred Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgan in the leading roles, this movie showcased the real story of Ganga Jagjivandas Kathiawadi, popularly known as Gangubai Kothewali, the movie is based on a chapter of Hussain jaidi’s book popularly known as mafia queens of Mumbai. This movie also has to go with the boycott tradition and so the kamathipura residents protested against the movie and banning it because according to them the movie showed their area in the bad light and also claimed that
their Kamathipura is 250 years old, many engineers, pilots, doctors lived there, but they are defamed because of films. People are not getting jobs even after they appear for the interviews. It’s bad to hear!.’ Despite all those things Gangubai Kathiawadi movie earned ₹209.77 crore worldwide and The film was showcased at the Berlinale Special Galas on February 16 at 72nd Berlin international Film festival.
5. Ram Leela
This 2013 released movie of Sanjay Leela Bhansali depicted the story based on Shakespeare’s love story Romeo Juliet, the story portrays Ram and Leela who sees each other and fall for each other. They both were completely strangers but both their families were enemies since 500 years and both Ram and Leela had to fight with the world to live together forever, this movie also went with a lot of criticism and boycott because of the name of the movie as there was a lot of protests as people felt that the name of the movie hurted people’s religious sentiments and the name was changed to “Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela” due to the orders of Delhi High court . The movie Ram-Leela earned ₹220.58 crore in its theatrical run and emerged as the fifth highest-grossing Indian film of the year.
So these were five hit boycotted movies, the reason why most of the boycotted movies proved to be blockbusters is because it creates a sense of suspense among the spectators and it tends them to watch the movies. And therefore the boycotted ones prove to be the best ones.
