19 November 2023, Mumbai: Aatish Kapadia’s comedy-drama, Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan, faced a modest start at the box office, managing to accrue a domestic nett of Rs 1.15 crore on its first day in theatres. Despite Maneesh Sharma’s Tiger 3 dominating cinema halls and mixed to negative reviews, the film struggled to make a significant impact on its opening day.
Saturday’s Anticipated Decline in Khichdi
Khichdi 2 exhibited an overall 20.78% Hindi Occupancy on its second day in theatres. Morning shows recorded 10.66%, afternoon shows 19.21%, evening shows 24.94%, and night shows 28.31%. Industry trackers predicted a decline in the film’s performance on Saturday, estimating earnings of Rs 25 lakh in the domestic market. The clash with the World Cup final involving the Indian cricket team on Sunday further posed challenges for the film.

Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan is a direct sequel to Aatish Kapadia’s 2010 film, Khichdi: The Movie, and serves as the fifth installment in the Khichdi franchise. The franchise originated as a TV series on STAR Plus in 2002, gaining popularity and earning numerous awards. Khichdi holds the distinction of being one of the earliest Indian TV series to unfold in seasons and undergo adaptation into a Bollywood film series.
