Bhumi Pednekar has had a good run lately! She has appeared in a variety of films back-to-back, including the over-the-top “Govinda Naam Mera,” “Bheed,” and now “Afwaah” by Anubhav Sinha. There will soon be more news regarding the actress’s six films that she shot last year. She co-stars in the movie “Afwaah” with Anubhav Mishra and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
“One of my biggest fears in life is that I’ll stagnate, I will become lazy and comfortable with what I have. When you’re often complimented on your art or craft, people tend to become comfortable but it makes me uncomfortable. I start questioning everything that I’m doing, I start questioning my sincerity towards the film. That’s also my process so that I don’t stagnate as an actor. With everything, you try to give your most, but having a director who helps you push your boundaries is something I’m constantly chasing. That’s why for me, to be a part of ‘Afwaah’, the biggest carrot was Sudhir sir,” Bhumi replied when questioned about whether having this kind of variation and being able to have a method for each character has been her goal.
Bhumi thinks Anubhav’s female characters are strong in his films. “I’ve seen all of his films, and for completely self-serving reasons, I think he does something special with his female characters. His films provide actors a chance to push themselves beyond their comfort zones. I can absolutely say that after attending his filmmaking school, my acting has grown.”
Bhumi has fortunately not yet experienced the level of hardship that the subject of their movie “Afwaah” does. But does she react well to rumours? “Most times, I ignore them but when I feel it’s affecting a loved one of mine – my mother, my sister and if it affects my work, that’s when I really would deal with it. Till now, I’ve been fortunate that till now there’s been nothing which has had an adverse effect on me, not that it can’t happen in the future. So far, I’ve not faced any rumour that has really shaken me up.”
However, Bhumi is certain to keep her personal life private. “There hasn’t been much about my personal life that has come out in seven years of my career, and that’s how it will be,” says Bhumi Pednekar.
