7 Memorable Cameos in Sanjay Leela Bhansali Films: From Priyanka Chopra and Salman Khan to Ajay Devgn

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of the greatest filmmakers Indian cinema has ever seen. His films are known for their grand visual worlds, unforgettable music, and layered characters. Alongside the leading cast, he has also brought some of the biggest names in Indian cinema into his stories through memorable cameos and special appearances. Though their screen time may have been limited, these appearances often added glamour, humour, gravitas or an unexpected spark to the narrative. Here are seven cameos that stood out in Sanjay Leela Bhansali films.

1. Priyanka Chopra - Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela

Priyanka Chopra’s special appearance in the song “Ram Chahe Leela” became one of the most talked-about moments from Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Dressed in a glamorous avatar, Priyanka brought immense energy and charisma to the song, commanding attention with her sizzling dance moves and terrific screen presence. Despite being a special appearance, she made the sequence instantly memorable and added another layer of glamour to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s musical extravaganza.

2. Ajay Devgn - Gangubai Kathiawadi

Ajay Devgn’s appearance as Rahim Lala was among the most impactful cameos in Gangubai Kathiawadi. Bringing authority and gravitas to the role, Devgn’s presence immediately elevated the character. His interactions with Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai became an important part of her journey, while his commanding performance ensured that Rahim Lala left a lasting impression despite limited screen time.

3. Jackie Shroff – Devdas

Jackie Shroff played Chunni Babu in Devdas, bringing charm, warmth and a distinctive personality to the character. As Devdas’ close friend and confidant, Chunni Babu shared some of the film’s most memorable moments with Shah Rukh Khan’s Devdas. Jackie’s effortless performance gave the character an emotional presence that made him far more than just a supporting figure in the story.

4. Huma Qureshi - Gangubai Kathiawadi

Huma Qureshi made a glamorous special appearance in Gangubai Kathiawadi through the song “Shikayat.” Her graceful performance and expressive screen presence perfectly complemented Bhansali’s lavish musical aesthetic. Huma’s appearance added a burst of glamour to the narrative while making the song one of the film’s visual highlights.

5. Salman Khan - Saawariya

Salman Khan’s appearance in Saawariya was a delightful surprise for audiences. He made a special appearance as Imaan, adding his star power to Bhansali’s dreamy and visually extravagant world. His presence also carried a sense of nostalgia, given his earlier collaborations with the filmmaker. Though brief, the appearance became one of the film’s memorable talking points.

6. Makarand Deshpande in Guzaarish

Makarand Deshpande’s appearance in Guzaarish added to the film’s distinctive and theatrical atmosphere. Known for his ability to bring eccentricity and character to even unconventional roles, Deshpande fitted naturally into Bhansali’s unusual world. His presence, though not central to the story, contributed to the rich collection of characters that surrounded Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s leads.

7. Rani Mukerji in Saawariya

Rani Mukerji made a special appearance in Saawariya, bringing her warmth and familiar screen presence to Bhansali’s fantastical world. Her cameo added another celebrated name to the film’s ensemble and became a delightful moment for audiences. Her appearance also reflected Bhansali’s knack for bringing established stars into his ambitious cinematic worlds.

From glamorous song appearances to characters who became an integral part of the narrative, SLB has consistently made his supporting appearances memorable. These cameos and special performances may have occupied different amounts of screen time, but each added something unique to his cinematic worlds. Looking ahead, Bhansali’s upcoming film Love & War already promises to be another ambitious chapter in his illustrious career.
