Surya was an engaged participant in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and served as the General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). He actively participated in the Bharatiya Janata Party campaign for the 2014 Indian general election and, in 2017, assisted in organising the BJP's 'Mangalore Chalo' rally.
