4th March,2024, Mumbai: Mumbai, a metropolis of activity, had a noteworthy addition when a sculpture was revealed at one of its busiest train stations in Andheri West, one of the city’s most popular neighbourhoods. The #Andheri(W) sculpture, which was conceptualised by the distinguished MLA Ameet Satam, who represents the Andheri West Constituency, and realised by the well-known artist, social worker, and writer Nagi, represents the dynamic growth of this thriving neighbourhood throughout the previous ten years. Actor Tiger Shroff unveiled the #Andheri(W) sculpture in front of artist Rouble Nagi, MLA Ameet Satam, renowned film producer Anand Pandit, and renowned filmmaker Ashoke Pandit in a gesture that highlighted the intersection of art, community, and cinema.
Symbolism and Significance of the #Andheri(W) Sculpture
The sculpture will stand as a tribute to the development and cultural diversity of Andheri West and is placed thoughtfully at the station’s entrance. The sculpture captures the essence of Andheri West’s charm and diversity, adorned with exquisite imagery of renowned locations from the neighbourhood, including Gilbert Hill, the ISKCON Temple, Juhu Beach, and the well-known ‘I<3Mumbai’ selfie point.
Tiger Shroff was overjoyed to witness a sizable gathering of people applauding him outside the Andheri West train station. He said, “I am honoured and truly happy that I have been asked to inaugurate this magnificent sculpture #Andheri(W).” Since I frequently travel to Andheri for my filming and rehearsing, I adore both Mumbai and Andheri. Being here today makes me very, very pleased.
Artist’s Perspective and Creative Process
The sculpture took Rouble Nagi about two months to complete. She was excited and said, “Crafting this sculpture has been a labour of love.” It’s a privilege to tell the tale of Andheri West, a vibrant area with a lot of energy, graphically. “Public art has always been about collaboration, between citizens, leaders, and artists,” the speaker continued. I’m excited to have made this sculpture for Andheri West, which serves as a selfie point and shows off the neighborhood’s attractions. The “hashtag” movement, in my opinion, fosters community and increases public art awareness.
For those who are unaware, Rouble Nagi is a highly accomplished and globally recognised artist who has created over 800 murals. Rouble was one of the pioneers in bringing art installations to Mumbai and making the city more beautiful. She has created a number of sculptures across Maharashtra, including #Bandra #Hajiali, #Thane, #Chembur, #Alibag, #Juhubeach, #Saibaba, and I <3 Mumbai, in addition to other noteworthy pieces.
Ameet Satam’s Vision for Mumbai’s Aesthetic Enhancement
“This sculpture is not just a work of art; it’s a celebration of Andheri West’s evolution and spirit,” Ameet Satam continued. Given that Mumbai is an international metropolis and has a relatively low open space ratio in comparison to other international cities, it is critical to preserve and enhance the city’s open spaces. Additionally, the city’s aesthetic appeal is essential to its vibrancy, which is why we have developed the #Juhubeach, Vertical Butterfly Garden, I <3 Mumbai selfie spot, and Golden Lotus. We are now adding the #Andheri(W) sculpture, which represents the ten years of progress in Andheri West.
