21 October 2023, Mumbai: ‘Ghost,’ a entertaining action film featuring the renowned Shiva Rajkumar, made its much-anticipated debut in cinemas on October 19. The movie has garnered a positive reception from both fans and critics, with many hailing it as one of Shiva Rajkumar’s finest performances, portraying him as the ‘Big Daddy’ of the industry. As for its box office performance, the film is showing promise, especially in its home state of Karnataka.
Ghost Box Office Numbers and Regional Occupancy
On its second day in theaters, ‘Ghost’ managed to accumulate a respectable collection, amounting to Rs 1 crore at the box office. The film’s impact has been particularly strong in Karnataka, where it is receiving substantial support. The state capital, Bengaluru, reported a solid 49% occupancy rate, while Shivamogga, another key location, experienced an impressive 58.75% occupancy. The morning shows recorded an occupancy of 28.29%, and as the day progressed, evening and night showings saw a significant surge in audience turnout.
‘Big Daddy’ Character in ‘Ghost’
In ‘Ghost,’ directed by MG Srinivas and produced by Sandesh Productions, Shiva Rajkumar portrays a character referred to as “Big Daddy.” When asked about the significance of this character in contributing to his status as a mass hero, Shiva Rajkumar emphasized the unique appeal of “Big Daddy.” He explained, “While actors are often labeled as superheroes or romantic heroes, ‘Big Daddy’ genuinely captures the essence of the character. The name ‘Daddy’ carries significant power and adds an emotional dimension to the role.” Alongside Shiva Rajkumar, ‘Ghost’ features Malayalam actor Jayaram and Bollywood actors Anupam Kher and Prashant Narayanan in prominent roles.
Sequel Confirmation
Shiva Rajkumar also confirmed that a sequel to ‘Ghost’ is already in development. He expressed, “We felt that one part wouldn’t do justice to the story.”

‘Ghost’ marks the 126th film in Shiva Rajkumar’s illustrious career, and it distinguishes itself as the actor’s first venture into a suspense-thriller genre devoid of songs and a conventional heroine. Describing the film, Shiva Rajkumar highlighted the invisibility and chilling nature of the titular “Ghost.” He noted that his character exudes a stealthy presence and instills fear in his adversaries, clearly establishing the character’s unique identity within the narrative.
